About Andrew
Poised to make a mark on the world, Andrew Schrader is a vibrant and innovative Tampa music composer. His formal education in composition was attained from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. There he earned a Masters in Composition and Electro-Acoustic Music, becoming familiar and comfortable with both acoustic composition and computer music. In April 2008, he was distinguished with the University of South Florida Outstanding Merit in Composition. Andrew’s skills and interest in composition grew out of a life-long study of music.
While saxophone is Andrew’s primary performing instrument, he has learned to play piano, guitar, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba, bass, and percussion to varying proficiencies. His knowledge of how to play multiple instruments contributes to his mastery of music composition. Performers often enjoy his music as much as the listener.
Andrew’s music exhibits his ability to compose in a variety of popular and contemporary styles. As Neil Pepi, music expert and reviewer at the Tampa Examiner, states in an online review of Andrew Schrader’s composition Snap:
Although “Snap” was played next to an abstract Schwantner piece, a Kennan trumpet concerto, and a Wagnerian march, it really stood alone as an invigorating breath of fresh air. What was even more impressive was how it managed to incorporate not only the playful melodies and grooves that were easy to get into, but also the sense of complexity appropriate for such a large and entirely instrumental ensemble.
From commercial to modern, from popular to eclectic, Andrew’s music will connect to your audience.
