Made completely from three sound sources (two female voices and a male voice), A Woman’s Place is a humorous look back into the 1950’s. The text of this piece is from a 1950’s home ec textbook. The voice performers are Theresa Wehner, Nancy Furman, and myself (Andrew Schrader) and it was recorded in the SYCOM studios at the University of South Florida.

This electronic work combines previously recorded compositions of mine and sounds created with the EMU synthesizer in the SYCOM studios at the University of South Florida. The previously recorded material was taken from recordings of two saxophone quartets I composed when I was in high school (Alone and El Mundo). The electronic sounds created from a keyboard-controlled EMU synthesizer are intended to be humorous and reminiscent of old Atari game sounds. All sounds were mixed with Audacity (software).
Primordial Soup

Made completely from the sound of a creaky cabinet door and a pot containing water, Primordial Soup is a surprising and unique piece. The dynamic range is wide and the sounds are fashioned into what seems like an electric guitar. This piece was created in Digital Performer (software).

There may not be much to do in Springfield, Illinois other than to learn more about Abraham Lincoln. However, there can always be something interesting to say in Springfield, Illinois. My two sisters, Amy and Laura inspired me to create this electronic work. It features multiphonics performed on a saxophone and my own vocal tricks. It was created with Cubase (software).

With the right tools and equipment I can create clean special effects. Unbroken Peace was created with a chain, a metal stool, lightbulbs, a resonant brick hallway, metal washers, marbles, a cup, a broom and a mystery prop. The hymn that is whistled throughout the work is symbolic of the peace one may have in the middle of chaos.
